Five Small Tips to Live a Happier Lifestyle: The Power of Gratitude

The easiest and most straightforward way to live a happier, more fulfilling life is to spend a few moments every day focusing on the good things in your life and being grateful.

It can assist you in…

  • You can quickly lift your mood and increase motivation.

It is a wonderful habit to cultivate, that requires little in return but yields much.

This week, I want to share 5 tips to help you cultivate gratitude and happiness in life.

1. Take a moment to look around.

To build gratitude habits, the first step is to simply pause and ask yourself simple questions such as:

  • What are you grateful for today?

It is okay if you can’t think of many things or people each day. It is okay to find just one thing or one person. Don’t get too focused on the numbers.

Take a few moments to see what you can come up with.

Do not repeat the same thing too often. Instead, think of more people and things you are grateful for in your daily life.

2. Take a look at yourself.

Look beyond the outside.

Also, take a look at yourself. It is easy to increase self-esteem by being grateful and appreciative of yourself.

Ask yourself:

What are three things that I can be thankful for about myself?

You could have been a great friend, father or mother in this moment of crisis. You might have finally completed the task that you were procrastinating about.

Self-gratification does not need to be about your achievements at school or work.

It is possible to simply be thankful for your sense of humor, or help others by being a good listener.

3. You may be surprised at how small things you take for granted.

Do not limit your gratitude to the obvious and large things.

Consider the small things that you can be thankful for.

As the plant that is right in front of me as I write these words.

It isn’t a very impressive plant. Its simple beauty, its vibrant green color and ability to grow on very little water and sunlight is what I am grateful for.

Another thing I am grateful for today, which I sometimes take for granted, was my lunch. It consisted of potatoes and some grilled chicken with a dollop sauce. It was delicious.

Even better, I don’t have to go hungry. I’m very lucky to be able to have lunch every day.

Ask yourself:

  • What is something small that you can be thankful for today?

You can see the beauty in everyday things and appreciate them more.

4. It doesn’t matter if you do it at night or early in the morning.

How can you make gratitude a habit that sticks and doesn’t disappear after a few days?

These are two things I found to be very effective:

  • To get a great start to your day, take a minute to find 3 things that you are grateful for in your daily life.

For a week, make a small time commitment to these activities and see the impact it has on your life and thoughts.

5. Thank you.

Do not keep your gratitude inside. It’s important to express your gratitude.

You can make other people happy and maybe help them pay it forward later by showing gratitude for them being in your life.

You will be happier if they smile and see the joy in your eyes when you tell this to them.

This gratitude might be a simple sentence. It can make a huge difference in someone’s life, their week, or even their entire day.

Tell the people in your circle of friends.

You can tell them tonight in person. You can also send an email or letter to someone further away. Send a short text message right away.
